Recently, we held our third Friends for L.I.F.E. Gala. Starr Pass Resort hosted the event and in attendance were some amazing city influencers. Our Friends for L.I.F.E. are Christians who have made an additional commitment beyond 4Tucson Membership to use their Labor, Influence, Finances and Expertise to help 4Tucson accomplish its vision and mission. It was a remarkable gathering of leaders.
At the event we presented “What” 4Tucson has accomplished in 2021. I have very high expectations. Even I could not help but be impressed with what our team has accomplished this year.
Then we presented “Why” 4Tuscon does what it does. We believe that God desires so much more for our city than what we are currently experiencing. And we believe that Christians, living out their purpose, applying God’s wisdom to city problems, are the key to unlocking the peace and prosperity of our city. (Ephesians 3:10-11)
When God calls us to a God-sized endeavor, it doesn’t take long to realize that the task is bigger than we can do by ourselves. That has been the case with starting 4Tucson. I was overwhelmed at the magnitude of the task. I have come to believe that that is all part of God’s design. I recently read Dr. Benjamin Hardy’s book, Who Not How. In it he talks about the necessity to ask the right questions. It challenged me to stop asking “How” do I do what God called me to do, and start asking “Who” has God called to help me do this?
The most exciting part of the Gala for me was the privilege of sharing the “Who’s” that God has brought to collaborate and partner with 4Tucson in 2021. Several significant ministry partners were highlighted throughout at the Gala. They are the “Who’s” God has blessed us with to share the work of biblical city transformation. Each partner doing the part that God has uniquely called them to do. As we help each other accomplish our unique callings, we become the “Who” for one another. We experience the power of God working through us to accomplish His purposes. (2 Corinthians 4:7-10)
We don’t want to keep what God is doing through us to ourselves. We want to share it with you. We would be honored to be the “Who” in your life that helps you fulfill your God-given purpose.
Some of you reading this have already participated in 4Tucson’s Purpose Workshop. Others of you may have heard about the amazing results that have happened to those who have gone through it. Our desired outcome for those who complete the workshop is for each individual to walk away with a Life Purpose Statement that serves as their North Star. But creating a purpose statement is not enough. We then want to come along side you to help you actually live out the purpose God created just for you. (Ephesians 2:10)
As Christians we are each called to imitate Jesus. Jesus had a clear understanding of His purpose that drove Him to do the things He did, even the death on the cross. Jesus clearly stated His Life Purpose with those around Him as in Mark 1:8, Luke 4:43, John 12:27, John 18:37.
Have you ever noticed that even Jesus did not fulfill His purpose without first calling His “Who’s” to help Him? The task He was assigned by the Father was enormous. But He did it with the help of His friends. Those friends later took what they learned from Jesus and changed the world.
It is natural when we first discover our life purpose to start asking “How” do I do this? We should instead imitate Jesus and ask “Who” can help me do this?
There are 59 “one another” statements in the New Testament. Love one another, pray with one another, encourage one another, etc. Here is another insight that you may not have thought about recently. All the “one another’s” in scripture require a “Who.” Who can I encourage? Who can I pray for? Who can I serve? Who can I help carry a burden? Who can I forgive? Who can help me accomplish what God has called me to do?
Frankly, there are times when we all need “Who’s” in our lives to encourage us, to pray for us, to forgive us. Not only do we all need “Who’s” in our lives, we also need to be the “Who’s” for those in our circles of influence. The “one another’s” - the “Who’s” – are all part of God’s design to be all that He created us to be.
I am so grateful for the “Who’s” in my life. We would be honored if you would allow us to be a “Who” for you. We want to help you, not just discover your purpose, but to live it out to the glory of God.
