Our collaboration has chosen to move forward with a Prototype that will create Branding for Amphi. This prototype is designed to serve as a relationship-building, collaborative outreach that will create essential connections to successfully implement the future prototypes. The goal for this prototype is to establish healthy economic growth by building identity and pride in the community.
Out of this Prototype, two projects have been identified that will engage the community in celebrating its unique culture. These projects will be created and developed in our monthly Taskforce meetings. The two projects are as follows:
Poverty Reduction Taskforce Project: Develop an English as a Second Language (ESL) program for K - 5th graders that centers around the students’ countries of origin and individual family, while also establishing roots to their current community in Amphi. The program will culminate with the students writing a storybook about their culture and their new life in Amphi, illustrated and written in both their first language and English.
Economic Opportunity & Development Taskforce Project: Launch a Market Day in the neighborhood. This would be similar to a farmer’s market, with food trucks, local business vendors, produce and crafter's booths, live music, dancing and demonstrations.
Poverty Reduction Taskforce Purpose Statement
The city of Tucson has over 128,000 residents who live below the poverty line, which is an above average percentage of those in poverty.
Main Purpose Statement: 4Tucson’s Poverty Reduction Taskforce aims to combat poverty by improving high school graduation rates and levels of full time employment, and by decreasing teen pregnancy and single parenthood.
Purpose of Poverty Reduction TaskForce in Amphi: To start, 4Tucson will focus its efforts and resources in the Amphi Neighborhood to test Poverty Reduction approaches, whose successes will then be utilized in impoverished neighborhoods throughout Tucson. The Taskforce will devise action steps to increase Amphi’s educational attainment rate to 80% and will see 95% of high school graduates having job readiness skills, working life plan, and practicing healthy relationship skills by 2024.
Economic Opportunity & Development Purpose Statement
The city of Tucson has one of the worst economic opportunity indexes in the country and a medium household income that is 4.5% lower than Arizona’s average and 8.1% less than the average across the United States.
Main Purpose Statement: 4Tucson’s Economic Opportunity and Development Taskforce aims to improve Tucson’s economy by creating jobs, increasing workforce skills, improving household economics, and making strides to improve the economic outlook citywide.
Purpose of Economic Opportunity & Development TaskForce in Amphi: To start, 4Tucson will focus its efforts and resources in the Amphi Neighborhood to test Economic Opportunity and Development approaches, whose successes will then be utilized in impoverished neighborhoods throughout Tucson. The Taskforce will devise achievable goals through 2024 and the action steps that will lead them there.
