protesting war in Ukraine

Praying for the Ukraine

Greetings Pray-ers,
It has been a bit baffling to me on why the events in the Ukraine are affecting me as they are. Perhaps it is because I’ve been to both the Ukraine and Russia – experiencing much that was good about each country: the people, the history, the culture. Perhaps it is because my father was a Professor of both Russian & Eastern European History (with a personal passion for Romanian History) and his appreciation for these areas rubbed off on me as a young child. Or perhaps it is what I perceived as the barbaric and senseless nature for how this invasion began and what is continuing to happen – at least at the time of this writing.

I cannot be apologetic by saying something doesn’t smell, look, or feel right. We’ve seen how Covid 19 created fear and panic in our country and in many other parts of the world. And even though we are now seeing many of the restrictions being relaxed, overall we are still at a heightened level of awareness. So now we see this invasion coming only 4 days after the close of the winter Olympics, with the headlines “shouting out” that China requested of Mr. Putin to wait before beginning his attack. It can be a temptation to get caught up in all the headlines and the truth is we probably won’t ever know what the complete truth is. What is really going on? What is going on in the heavenlies?

Ephesians 6:12 states, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Yes, I do see a spiritual battle that is taking place. In Matthew 24:6 Jesus/Yeshua says, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” As Christians, we are prone to quote this verse to show others how well we know God’s word. Despite its truth, no one wants to hear these words as they are looking down the gun turret of a tank. But, as intercessors, how do we pray? How do we pray when we know the battle is spiritual but the conflicts are very real? How do we pray when we know the Day of the Lord’s return is on the horizon and these things we are experiencing must happen? Do we simply and humbly pray, “Lord, your will be done.”?

The following prayers are what I am praying. Use them as guidance. Feel free to share how you may be praying about all this. I respect the fact that there may be some who disagree with one or more of the prayers below. Show grace. We are all learning and as we press in to the Lord and His Word, we will continue to learn.

  1. Pray that the hostilities directed towards the Ukraine cease.
  2. Pray for the Lord to open the eyes of the Russian government to recognize and understand that forcefully invading another country (that did not attack first) is not the answer to resolving issues.
  3. Pray the power of the Holy Spirit will reveal himself to Mr. Putin. Pray that his heart does not become hardened as did the Pharaoh in the time of Moses.
  4. Pray for wisdom and protection for the Ukrainian president, government.
  5. Pray for the safe evacuation of the innocent.
  6. Pray for Ukrainian families to be reunited quickly with their husbands and fathers as the men are required to stay in the country to protect it.
  7. Pray for truth to be spoken (and heard) with integrity, honesty, discernment and decorum when governing bodies meet to discuss resolving this conflict.
  8. Pray for the US government to make wise decisions.
  9. Pray that the tactics of the enemy (satan) will be revealed and thwarted.
  10. Pray for the thousands in Russia who are protesting this war and are being arrested; pray that their concerns will be heard.
  11. Pray for the Body of Christ in the Ukraine to be strengthened, empowered and encouraged.
  12. Pray for those who have been displaced to find shelters of safety.
  13. Pray for the many Ukrainian Jewish people who are making alyiah (immigrating) to Israel.
  14. Pray Psalm 91:4, He (God) will cover you (Ukrainians) with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.15.  What is the Lord showing you…

Blessings & Shalom,
Kris
