This Tuesday, November 8, 2022, we willingly give our consent to representatives to govern us. It is our duty to vote in all elections, especially this one, where showing up to the polls will make the difference in maintaining our republic.
The United States Declaration of Independence is a remarkable document. It spells out that our rights come from God and not a king. One phrase that stands out is: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”. The key words are “just power”. Just power has boundaries that we consent to. As biblical citizens, we should never consent to powers that go against God’s word.
When we elect our representatives, we must remember that when we consent to giving government authority, we expect them to protect our God given rights. Our Constitution spells out just how far government can go. When our elected representatives abuse the power we consented to give them, we have a right and a duty to replace those representatives. We do it through the electoral process.
In this election, we are not only electing individuals, we are also electing the principles and policies those individuals and political parties stand for. When laws are passed, do those laws infringe on our rights? Does your representative or future representative believe in giving unbridled authority and expansion to bureaucratic agencies?
Let’s take the Department of Education that is attaching state funding to policies that may go against the policies of the states. That means only states that comply with the Department of Education policy will get federal funding. Right now, Arizona is fighting in court to keep biological men out of women’s sports’ locker rooms and showers or lose school lunch funding. Are you going to vote for the Arizona Senators and Congressmen who voted to hire 87,000 new armed IRS Agents and increase funding to the IRS by 80 billion inflation fueling dollars? How about not hiring 18,000 Border Patrol agents that are needed to help stop the flow of millions of foreign nationals from every country in the world? As fuel prices soar, the Environmental Protection Agency is refusing to allow new drilling of oil and exploration on federal land and off shore They are also impeding oil and gas production by draconian agency created regulation. All this as our coal is being shipped to China. Where do the candidates stand on these policies?
Candidates who believe in biblical principles are being vilified for believing in the sanctity of life, school choice, parental control of their children, biblical fiscal policy and God created gender. These are the people who deserve our vote.
Those of you who haven’t voted early or by mail, please set your alarm and vote on Tuesday. There is no excuse. If you need a ride, your political party will drive you to the poll no matter how you vote in private. In Pima County, you can vote at any Polling Location. They will print you a ballot based on your address no matter where you vote. As biblical citizens, we have a duty to prayerfully vote.
