August 16 Government Domain Newsletter: Mask, Vaccine Mandates
“The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”Deuteronomy 28:12
Arizona’s parched desert is being blessed with rain. We are also enjoying prosperity that gives opportunity for all and enables those impoverished to elevate their circumstance. Phoenix is the fastest growing city in the nation and we have strong economic growth in many other Arizona cities and towns. There are more jobs than workers to fill them and wages are going up.
With a one vote majority, our state government passed the biggest tax cut in Arizona history. Laws were passed that protect children, support life, further religious freedom, protect parental rights, improve voter integrity, expand school choice and fund education. There is still more work to be done and battles to be fought but all in all, Arizona is on the right track.
At the federal level, we see another story. With bipartisan support including Arizona Senators Sinema and Kelly, the Senate passed a $1.2 trillion so-called infrastructure bill. It contains relatively little traditional infrastructure yet is filled with many social programs. Disturbingly, immoral social engineering is built into the bill. A new protected class of people has been created, not only based on what people actually are, but how they perceive themselves to be. The category includes race, religion, national origin, gender identity and sexual identity. That’s right, if you perceive yourself as any of these categories, you have special protection for discrimination. The absurdity is beyond belief.
Looming ahead is a $3.5 trillion budget that narrowly passed the Senate and is now heading to the House of Representatives. In the budget is citizenship for illegal immigrants, free childcare and secondary education, federal housing subsidies, expanded healthcare, eliminating fossil fuel and tax increases. Though some of these are noble causes, this proposal will certainly bring about hyper inflation and devaluation of the dollar, while enslaving us and future generations with debt that we may never dig ourselves out of.
One hallmark piece of legislation that remains in jeopardy of being repealed is the “Hyde Amendment”. Named after its sponsor, Illinois Congressman Henry Hyde in 1976, the bill prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for most abortions. Then Senator Joe Biden voted and supported the bill for many years. Now, with radical leadership in the House and Senate, President Biden supports the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.
Around the state, school districts and local governments are imposing mask ordinances in violation of state law. The City of Tucson has just imposed a vaccine mandate for all employees that is in violation of Governor Ducey’s executive order. Today as we speak, the Pima County Board of Supervisors will be voting on vaccine mandates. We will see what the resolve is of our Attorney General, Legislature and Governor to address this anarchy.
We have the ability to have a say in what’s going on. Our job is to support legislation we agree with and oppose the bad. Attend school board meetings, city and town council meetings, and board of supervisor meetings. Call and email elected officials at all levels of government and most importantly support and vote for the good ones. Though it doesn’t always seem so, there are good leaders in office and seeking office.
