Sports are a terrific venue for reaching youth and kids, not only with teaching values and sportsmanship, but also demonstrating the love of Christ to them. Vision4Tucson is an organization that is committed to the welfare of our fair city, Tucson, and hopes to utilize coaches and athletes to influence young lives.

On May 21st at Centerfield Baseball Academy, 1861 W. Grant Road, Suite107, Tucson 85745 in order to set forth the vision of Vision4Tucson Sports, invite you to participate, and invite you to consider being a Character Coach for a local team.

A Character Coach is like a team chaplain. We are working with Fellowship of Christian Athletes who have been training and employing chaplains for years. They have invented the wheel, so to speak, and we hope simply to partner with them.

A Character Coach, or chaplain, commits to working alongside a high School coach and attends practices and games. They are available to athletes and their families.  They provide a listening ear, wise counsel, team talks, problem solving, etc. They may have a chance to pray with the athlete and even share their faith.

Richard Lopez, Tucson’s FCA leader, is hosting a training session on June 18, 2011 at Centerfield Baseball Academy, 1861 W. Grant Road, Suite107, Tucson 85745. Already 10 people are signed up for this event but we need more!  There are 28 High Schools and two universities in our city and a desperate need for compassion, leadership, and mentoring. You can make an impact. It starts with one youth and one caring adult.

There are other good ideas that we would like to share with you, such as a  a “Character Coach of the Year” Award, an outreach event to athletes with a Tim Tebow-like testimony, and a communication network that supports and encourages coaches.
